Parent College: Implementation Plays
- We facilitate outreach in our network schools and with community partners to recruit Parent College instructors and build their capacity to engage families and deliver content that bridges home and school.
- We build the capacity of teachers and parents to lead Parent College workshops and engage community partners who are best positioned to lead workshops in their content areas. Parent College Instructors receive a stipend, direct coaching, and training on content, including curriculum, tools, and resources for workshops.
- We remove barriers to participation by offering programming for children, free breakfast and lunch, transportation to and from the school campus, and incentives for parents to participate. We ensure the curriculum is accessible to our parents and is offered in both Spanish and English, with translation services on-site.
- We sponsor and organize University Day, a yearly field trip for Parent College participants across the network, in which participants visit a local four-year college and participate in workshops about the college preparation and admissions processes, as well as what parents can do to support their students once they’re in college.
- We sponsor and organize a yearly community resource fair to connect families with community partners who work in fields like immigration, health, and wellness.
- We facilitate tailored “Parent College Comes to You” workshops throughout the school year in individual schools to introduce new participants to the program.
- We coach school leaders and Parent College instructors to develop strategies to better engage with families on site and bring Parent College-like programming to their campuses. We make connections between our Parent College instructors and Family Action Teams to foster collaboration and elevate family engagement as a priority on campus.
