We focus where we can make the most impact.
How does the principle connect to our mission?
We combine the support we receive from the District with a focus on where we can use our more flexible philanthropic funding to bring additional value, model different approaches, and make the most impact in our schools and across the system.
What does this look like in practice?
• We benefit from key operational services provided by the District so we can focus on high-impact systems such as professional development, teacher recruitment and family engagement.
• We invest in systems change to scale programs that lead to student success and to remove barriers that impede that success. For example, we partnered with the District to scale the Parent College program and provide access to all parents districtwide.
• We advocate to illuminate and remedy policies and practices that create inequitable access and outcomes, such as our work to expand access to Gifted and Talented Education programs for all students. Within six months, this resulted in a 9% increase districtwide in the number of black students identified as gifted.
