Key considerations as you establish your board and governance structure
- Transparency: How will you align with district transparency requirements and how will your board align with district governance rules?
- Independence: How independent will your board be from the district in terms of membership? Will a member of the school board or district leadership sit on the partnership board?
- Reporting: What is the governance “connection” between the district and the partnership? How do the two entities report to one another?
- Representation: Who should be represented on the board? The Partnership’s board includes professionals, philanthropists, and parent and teacher stakeholders from our school sites.
- Function: What are the key functions of the board? Is it mostly concerned with fundraising, management decisions or actively involved in key strategic initiatives?
- Diversity: How will you prioritize and maintain ethnic and gender diversity on the board?
